Is it permissible for a woman to say to her husband, "I want a husband other than you," while she is still his wife?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is not permissible for a wife to tell her husband that she desires a husband other than him, as this constitutes a violation of Islamic law and ill-treatment of the husband.

If the husband does not desire to marry, he is not permitted to lie to his wife and inform her of his desire to marry. However, if he does desire to marry, it is not necessary to inform her, and he should not upset her by repeatedly speaking of his desire to marry, as this provokes jealousy and anger in her, and this is not part of good companionship.

Women are not immune to jealousy, even the wives of the Prophet were jealous. Therefore, a husband should treat his wife with wisdom and kind words, and avoid anything that spoils affection and harmony, acting upon the Prophet's (peace be upon him) وصية: "Treat women kindly."
