A man died survived by two daughters and a granddaughter (daughter's daughter); how should the inheritance be divided?

If the deceased's heirs are his two daughters and his granddaughter (daughter of his son), the inheritance is divided as follows:

For his two daughters: Two-thirds as a prescribed share (fard), based on the Almighty's saying: "But if there are [only] daughters, two or more, for them is two thirds of what he left." For the granddaughter: Nothing, because the direct daughters have completed their prescribed share. The remainder of the inheritance (one-third): For the closest male agnate ('asabah), based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Give the prescribed shares to those entitled to them; then whatever remains is for the nearest male relative."

It is recommended for the heirs to give the granddaughter something from the inheritance, based on the Almighty's saying: "And when [other] relatives and orphans and the needy are present at the time of division, then provide them [something] from it and speak to them words of kindness."

The distribution of inheritances is a serious and complex matter, and a mere fatwa is not sufficient. Rather, the matter must be referred to Sharia courts for investigation and verification of the existence of any other heirs, wills, debts, or rights that take precedence over the heirs' rights.
