What is the ruling on designing a program that automatically reduces the volume of music and loud sound effects in movies, and is selling it and profiting from it permissible?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

It is permissible to watch and sell beneficial films that are free from prohibited elements, music, and exposed 'awrah (parts of the body that should be covered), and to design a program to remove musical sounds from useful films. It is forbidden to watch or sell films that contain intellectual or behavioral prohibitions, or to assist in their promotion; this is based on the Almighty's saying: ﴿And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression.﴾ And the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever calls to misguidance will have a sin upon him similar to the sins of those who follow him." And whatever is forbidden to watch, it is forbidden to sell; this is based on his (peace be upon him) saying: "Indeed, when Allah forbids something, He also forbids its price."
