Some speak of a special prayer for the new Hijri year, attributed to the companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him, saying they learned it as they learned the Quran, and its text is: \"O Allah, bring it upon us with security and faith, peace and Islam, protection from Satan, and the pleasure of the Merciful.\"

The hadith discusses a supplication that the companions used to say at the beginning of a new year or month, which is: "O Allah, bring it upon us with safety, faith, peace, Islam, and satisfaction from the Merciful, and protection from Satan." The hadith was narrated by Tabarani with a weak chain of transmission, but it has a sound follow-up narrated by Al-Baghawi with a sound chain. Even though the hadith is attributed only to the companions, it is considered as raised because the companions' eagerness to learn it as they learned the Quran indicates that its source is revelation. Thus, it is recommended for a Muslim to say this supplication at the sighting of the crescent.
