Based on the Hadith of Abu Talhah, can it be said that there is permissible (halal) vinegar and impermissible (haram) vinegar, and how can one differentiate between them, especially since vinegar products and foods containing it do not carry a "halal" label, taking into consideration the presence of an alcohol percentage in white vinegar made from fermented wine?

There is no issue in consuming vinegar made from pure substances such as apples and sugarcane. The problem lies with vinegar derived from khamr (wine/intoxicant) that has not transformed into vinegar on its own.

The jurists have unanimously agreed that if khamr transforms into vinegar by itself, without any human intervention, it becomes pure and permissible.

However, they differed on the permissibility of transforming khamr into vinegar by adding substances to it. The Shafi'is and Hanbalis consider this impermissible, based on the hadith of Anas regarding the Prophet (peace be upon him) being asked about khamr being turned into vinegar, to which he replied: "No." Conversely, the Hanafis and Malikis deem it permissible to transform khamr into vinegar, whereby it becomes pure and permissible, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Vinegar is an excellent condiment." They hold that this process removes the corrupting characteristic.

The preponderant opinion is that transforming khamr into vinegar is forbidden, and the resulting vinegar is not pure.

It is permissible to buy khamr vinegar from markets unless the buyer knows that the seller intended to transform it into vinegar, as the buyer is not originally presumed to know this.

The presence of a small, non-intoxicating percentage of alcohol does not necessitate prohibition, as alcohol is present in many permissible substances, and it is incorrect to believe that everything containing a percentage of it is forbidden.
