What is incumbent upon a Muslim during the spread of an epidemic?
A Muslim, during an epidemic, in times of crisis, and indeed throughout their entire life, should adhere to three principles: taking lawful means, seeking help from Allah Almighty and relying on Him, and being content with Allah's decree and destiny.
Taking means: This includes preventing affliction before it occurs and treating it to remove it after it occurs, by following the directives of specialists such as doctors and health institutions.
Seeking help from Allah and relying on Him: This is the foundation of success and prosperity. Through it, affairs are eased and distress is relieved. From this stem supplication (Du'a), remembrance (Dhikr), repentance (Tawbah), seeking forgiveness (Istighfar), charity (Sadaqah), and assisting people.
Being content with Allah's decree and destiny: This is the balm of life, and it is built upon certainty in Allah's knowledge, wisdom, and justice, and that what has befallen you was not going to miss you, and what has missed you was not going to befall you.
These matters are derived from the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Be keen on what benefits you, and seek help from Allah, and do not be helpless. If anything befalls you, do not say, 'If only I had done such and such, it would have been such and such.' Rather say, 'Allah has decreed and what He wills, He does.' For 'if only' opens the way for the work of Shaytan (Satan)." (Narrated by Muslim).
