What does the word "awrad" mean? And are the five daily prayers considered among the awrad?

Lexically, awrad (أوراد) is the plural of wird (وِرْد). It refers to what a person commits themselves to, be it recitation, an action, or a duty. Its original meaning is a turn to fetch water, then it was metaphorically used for a Muslim's portion of Quran recitation and prayer.

Scholars and worshippers have conventionally used the term awrad to refer to supererogatory acts of worship that a person obligates themselves to, such as daily, consistent prayer, remembrance (dhikr), and Quran recitation. It may also include obligatory duties.
