Is it permissible for someone going on Hajj this year to pay the sacrifice amount as expiation for inadvertently perfuming themselves after assuming ihram, or is the sacrifice obligatory in their home country? And does this entail refraining from trimming nails and cutting hair until the day of Eid?

If a pilgrim in a state of ihram applies perfume out of ignorance, then according to many scholars, no fidyah (expiation) is due upon him. However, whoever wishes to avoid scholarly disagreement may pay a fidyah by fasting for three days, or feeding six needy persons, or sacrificing a sheep. The food or sheep should be sent to the poor of the Haram if possible. If he expiates by fasting, he may fast anywhere.
