Does the substance that issues from a leg ulcer and stains the bandage invalidate the prayer and nullify ablution?

Scholars have three schools of thought on this issue: The Hanafis believe that blood, pus, and similar discharges nullify ablution if they flow from a place of ablution. The Hanbalis believe it nullifies ablution if it is profuse and excessive. As for the Malikis and Shafi'is, they hold that it does not nullify ablution, and this latter opinion is the preponderant one. They base their argument on incidents such as the prayers of 'Abbad ibn Bishr and 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with them both, while they were wounded, and the continued prayers of Muslims despite their injuries. Therefore, there is no harm in continuing prayer if a wound discharges, especially since it is chronic, thus resembling cases of سلس ( سلس البول - urinary incontinence) and استحاضة ( استِحاضة - non-menstrual uterine bleeding).
