Is a wife forbidden to her husband who divorced her four or five times under different circumstances, locations, and times, knowing that he later discovered that the problems and his uttering of divorce were due to an affliction (mass) that befell him, his wife, and their daughter, and that his anger when uttering the divorce was of the kind where he was aware of what he was saying but could not control himself? And is his reassuring dream of their atmosphere clearing up considered evidence for the permissibility of their continuing together?

If a man is under sorcery and utters the divorce (talaq) unwillingly, or if he is moderately angry to the extent that he does not comprehend what he is saying, then the divorce is not binding on him. However, if he divorces three times or more while fully comprehending what he is saying, then his wife becomes unlawful to him and will not be permissible for him again until she marries another man in a valid marriage and that man divorces her after consummating the marriage. If it is less than three divorces, he may take her back before her waiting period ('iddah) expires, or renew the marriage contract with its pillars after the 'iddah expires. As for dreams (ru'ya), no legal ruling is based upon them. The spouses are advised to resort to trustworthy practitioners of ruqyah (Islamic exorcism) and to beware of charlatans, and to refer to sharia courts or consult scholars directly.
