Do one or more repudiations take place if a man says to his wife: "You are divorced" during multiple instances of anger, and are phrases such as "You are forbidden to me and we are divorced" or "You are thrice divorced" counted among them?

If a man divorces his wife three or more times before she exits her waiting period (iddah), she becomes irrevocably divorced from him with a major divorce (baynunah kubra). She is not lawful for him until she marries another husband, based on the Almighty's saying: ﴿And if he divorces her [for the third time], then she is not lawful to him afterward until she marries another husband.﴾ [Al-Baqarah: 230]. However, if he divorces her after she has exited her iddah, his divorce does not take effect because it did not occur to a valid object.

If the man returns to conjugal relations with his wife after his first or second divorce while she is still in her iddah, and then divorces her a second or third time, she is considered irrevocably divorced with a major divorce (baynunah kubra). However, if his return to his wife was after she had exited her iddah, then any subsequent divorces he issues after this return are not counted against him because they are not Islamically valid. When a wife exits the iddah of a revocable divorce (talaq raj'i), she is considered irrevocably divorced with a minor divorce (baynunah sughra), and she is not lawful for him except through a new marriage contract.

The fatwa stating that divorce does not occur due to "boredom" is incorrect. Divorce takes effect if the husband is conscious, has free will, and is not coerced. It is advisable to refer this matter to the Sharia court.
