How can commitment to prayer be restored and faith increased after a period of laxity, and what is the way to deal with job options available in usurious banks or companies of Jewish origin?
Prayer is the pillar of Islam, and caring for it takes precedence over study and work, for it is the life of the heart, the rectification of deeds, and the first thing a servant will be held accountable for. Among the things that help in performing it are:
1. Knowing that abandoning it is disbelief that expels one from the fold of Islam.
2. Knowing that delaying it beyond its prescribed time is a grave sin, as Allah Almighty says: "Then succeeded them a generation who neglected prayers and pursued lusts; so they are bound to meet Ghayyā." [Maryam: 59]. Ibn Hazm narrated from seventeen Companions the saying that whoever deliberately misses a obligatory prayer until its time has passed is a disbeliever.
3. Strengthening faith by performing good deeds and abandoning evil ones.
4. Being keen to perform it with the congregation.
5. Choosing righteous companions who aid in obedience.
As for provision (rizq), its permissible avenues are many, and a Muslim should strive in their studies, trusting that Allah will provide for His righteous servant from where they do not expect, as Allah Almighty said: "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect." [At-Talaq: 2-3].
