Is it permissible for a mother to watch cartoon films with her children if they are free of music and unlawful things?
Watching animated films depends on their content. If they are purposeful and free from prohibitions such as corrupt beliefs, indecent scenes, and music, then it is permissible to watch them for both children and adults, because they do not burden the viewer with the sin of the animators. Parents watching them with their children for the purpose of ensuring they are free from Sharia prohibitions is a good intention for which the parents will be rewarded. As for adults watching them merely for enjoyment and entertainment, while permissible, it should be rare and infrequent, for Allah will question a person about their life and youth, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The feet of the son of Adam will not move on the Day of Resurrection from before his Lord until he is questioned about five things: about his life and how he spent it, and about his youth and how he wore it out, and about his wealth from where he earned it and on what he spent it, and what he did with what he knew."
