What is the ruling on breaking the fast in Ramadan due to addiction to strong drugs (cocaine), and what are the steps for expiation for this breaking of the fast?

Breaking the fast during the day in Ramadan without a legitimate Shar'i excuse is a major sin and a great transgression. If it is due to drugs, then it is an even greater sin, because consuming them is forbidden and becomes more reprehensible in Ramadan. Whoever commits this must offer sincere repentance, feeling remorse and resolving never to return to drugs, whether in Ramadan or at other times. They must also make up for the days they missed. Expiation (kaffarah) is not required for breaking the fast by means other than intercourse, such as eating, drinking, or drugs, as kaffarah is specific to intercourse.
