Is it permissible to travel to Makkah from Jeddah without ihram, and perform ihram from Abi Ali?

One must enter into the state of ihram for Umrah when passing by the miqat, even if by air, if one is determined to perform Umrah and not hesitant. It is forbidden to delay ihram until Jeddah or Mecca. However, if one is hesitant or intends to go to Medina first, there is no harm in delaying ihram, and ihram would then be from the miqat of the people of Medina (Dhu al-Hulayfah).

Jeddah is not a miqat for those coming from its direction. The miqats specified by the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, are: Dhu al-Hulayfah for the people of Medina, Al-Juhfah for the people of Syria, Egypt, and Morocco, Qarn al-Manazil for the people of Najd, Dhat Irq for the people of Iraq, and Yalamlam for the people of Yemen. It is obligatory for anyone who passes parallel to these miqats, whether by air or sea, to enter ihram from them. If the exact parallel point is unclear, they should enter ihram as a precaution before the miqat, and this removes the dislike of entering ihram before the miqat.
