Is it permissible for someone who has missed prayers to pray supererogatory prayers, such as Duha and the regular Fajr Sunnah, before completing the make-up of all due missed prayers for two days, knowing that he divides the make-up of these missed prayers over the times of the present prayers, and cannot make them up all at once?

The previous fatwa mentioned the different opinions of scholars regarding the ruling on performing supererogatory (nafl) prayers for someone who has missed obligatory prayers (fawait). The view of some Malikis that it is impermissible for someone who has missed prayers to perform supererogatory ones is not the relied-upon opinion among them. The correct view according to the Malikis is that it is not permissible for someone who has missed prayers to perform supererogatory prayers, except for what has been specifically exempted. Thus, they may pray the Sunnah of Fajr but not the Dhuha prayer. The intention behind praying two days' worth of prayers for someone who has missed them is to pray them within a day and a night, not all at once.
