What is the ruling on shunning a mother who commits grave sins, does not respond to admonition, and causes her children to be imprisoned for opposing her actions?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If the mother is committing the major sins mentioned, the most important advice is to pray for her guidance. One must be patient with this affliction, without despairing or thinking of suicide. Some virtuous relatives or friends should be assigned to advise her and call her to repentance. Honoring one's mother is obligatory in all circumstances, even if she misbehaves, and it is not permissible to abandon her unless it is highly probable that doing so would benefit her. If it is confirmed that the sisters are committing lesbian acts, then it is obligatory to rebuke them kindly. If they do not desist, and it is hoped that abandoning them would benefit them, then they should be abandoned.
