Are there two calls to prayer or one in the Friday prayer?

During the time of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and Abu Bakr and Umar, the first call (to prayer) on Friday was when the Imam sat on the minbar. Then, Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, added the first adhan (the third call) at "al-Zawra" due to the large number of people.

Imam Shafi'i held that the adhan should be given when the Imam enters the mosque and sits on the minbar. Al-Albani explained this by saying that the reason Uthman added the first adhan (the large number of people and distant homes) no longer exists today.

Conversely, Al-Fawzan believes that the first adhan is a sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, and that Uthman commanded it because people needed to be alerted to the approaching Friday prayer. The Companions approved of it, so it is considered a firmly established sunnah.

The matter is broad: whoever calls a single adhan has followed the example of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and Abu Bakr and Umar. And whoever calls two adhans has followed the example of the Rightly Guided Caliph Uthman and the Companions.
