What is the ruling on someone who sculpts a statue of himself from the top down to approximately his waist and places it in a public place?

It is impermissible to sculpt statues of animate beings, whether they are complete or incomplete, if the incompleteness is not in the head. This is based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Those who make these images will be tormented on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said to them: 'Give life to what you have created.'" Scholars have reached a consensus on its prohibition. However, if the statue is headless, it is permissible, according to his (peace be upon him) saying: "The image is the head, so if the head is cut off, there is no image." The sin is magnified if the statues are hung or erected in public places.
