What is the jurisprudential guidance for dealing with negative thoughts and skeptical ideas concerning servitude (to God), creation, and seeking forgiveness, which affect one's sense of faith and cause psychological distress?
Wrong thoughts and ideas that assail a person without their choice are not held against them. If one dislikes them and seeks refuge in Allah from them, that is a sign of the soundness of their faith. Some may not fully grasp the reality of servitude (ubudiyyah) and the nature of Paradise and Hell. Paradise is the name of the abode of absolute and perfect bliss, and its greatest delight is the joy of beholding the Noble Face of Allah. Allah's pleasure is greater than Paradise and all that it contains. Similarly, for the inhabitants of Hell, the torment of being veiled from Allah and His wrath, displeasure, and remoteness is greater than the burning of the fire in their bodies. One must combine love, fear, and hope in fulfilling the right of servitude. The Muslim needs to seek religious knowledge in a systematic and organized manner to ward off doubts. A person never ceases to be in need of seeking forgiveness and repentance with their heart and tongue. The blessings of Allah Almighty are too numerous to count, necessitating gratitude for them.
