Is raising a black dog for guarding purposes inside the house or in its garden Haram (forbidden) or Makruh (disliked)?

Scholars have differed regarding the permissibility of keeping a dog for guarding homes and the like. The more preponderant opinion is its permissibility, by analogy with what has been permitted to keep, such as hunting dogs, and dogs for farming and livestock, due to the need for them. It is preferable not to bring the dog inside the house, because it prevents the entry of angels and exposes vessels and clothes to defilement, due to the generality of the hadiths that prevent the entry of angels where there is a dog or an image.
