Is there a status between Paradise and Hell? And who are the people of Al-A'raf?

There is no intermediate state between Paradise and Hell in the ultimate outcome; rather, people will either be in Paradise or in the Fire. However, before Allah separates people, there is the state of the People of Al-A'raf, who are those whose good deeds and bad deeds are equal. They will be detained until Allah makes a decision concerning them.
