Can Al-Baladhuri's book, "Jumal min Ansab al-Ashraf," be considered a reliable source for Islamic biography and history, despite the proven falsehood of many of its historical claims, such as the assassination of Umar by Sa'd ibn Ubadah, Umar's assault on Fatimah al-Zahra, and the falsehood of a hadith disparaging Mu'awiyah?

Al-Baladhuri is considered one of the historians who followed two methodologies in their books: the first was documenting narratives with their chains of transmission (isnad) without committing to their authenticity or falsity, and the second was collecting narratives to enable the critic to distinguish between what is established and what is not. Scholars have described him as virtuous, a genealogist, and meticulous, and they praised his works. Although his books contain unique or dubious narrations, he often demonstrated his diligence by preferring certain narrations or indicating that their source was unknown. Dr. Abd al-Aziz al-Duri mentions that Al-Baladhuri, in "Futuh al-Buldan" (Conquests of Lands) and "Ansab al-Ashraf" (Genealogies of Nobles), selected his material after critique and relied on neutral and accurate narrations, and that he was neutral and objective in his reports despite his connection with the Abbasids.
