Does reliance on God affect work, and how?

The reality of tawakkul (reliance on God) is an action of the heart and knowledge. The action of the heart is reliance upon and trust in Allah, and its knowledge is the understanding of Allah's Oneness in conferring benefit and inflicting harm. This action of the heart necessitates taking measures (الأسباب). Whoever abandons taking measures is blameworthy and a mere pretender of tawakkul. Allah Almighty commanded tawakkul after exercising caution and taking measures, as in His saying: "And consult them in the matter. Then when you have decided, then rely upon Allah." (Quran 3:159). An example of this is the command of the Prophet, peace be upon him, to the one who asked him about his camel: "Tie it and then rely [upon Allah]." So, the correct understanding is that whoever relies on Allah takes the necessary measures.
