Is a wife considered Islamically divorced if her husband practices sodomy?

The act of sodomy is among the gravest sins and indicates a perversion of one's innate nature (fitra). Severe warnings have been established for both the perpetrator and the one upon whom the act is committed. However, a husband's commission of this heinous act does not automatically divorce his wife. Rather, she should advise him, urge him to repent, and help him to become righteous. If he persists in committing it, then she is permitted to seek a divorce, and it is commendable for her to do so.
