What is the ruling on watching magic and sorcery shows (if it is real sorcery) at a birthday party, and is it permissible to attend if that is unlawful?

The matter combines two prohibitions: celebrating innovated holidays and the presence of a sorcerer and a singer, and what is feared they might do of unlawful acts. It is not permissible to attend a party where there is an evil unless the purpose is to denounce it. If one is unable to change it, then he must leave; otherwise, he would be a participant in the sin. If the evil is removed, there is no impediment to attending. As for mawlids (celebrations of the Prophet's birthday or other saints' birthdays), it is not permissible to attend them except to denounce them and clarify Allah's ruling concerning them, because they are innovations.
