If a wife immediately leaves the room after her husband says, "If you leave the room without reconciling with me, you are divorced, and by God, you will be divorced," does the divorce occur? And what are the conditions for reconciliation if the divorce has occurred?

The majority of scholars hold the view that a conditional divorce takes effect upon the fulfillment of its condition, and this is the fatwa we adhere to. However, Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and those who agreed with him are of the opinion that if the husband did not intend to effect a divorce, but rather intended to threaten or prevent, then the divorce does not take place, and he is obligated to offer an expiation for a broken oath (kaffarat yameen). Based on this, if you made your wife's divorce conditional on her leaving the room before reconciling with you, and she actually left, then she is divorced according to the majority. And your statement: "And by Allah, you will be divorced" is considered an affirmation of the conditional divorce, so one divorce is binding upon you. If you have not divorced her twice before, then you have the right to take her back before the expiry of her 'iddah (waiting period); otherwise, she becomes irrevocably divorced from you, and you do not possess the right to take her back except with a new marriage contract. It is advisable to avoid threatening with divorce during marital disputes, and it is better to use wisdom and legitimate means of reconciliation.
