Is it permissible for a mother to pay Zakat al-Fitr on behalf of her adult sons and daughters and her grandchildren whom she supports, knowing that they live with her and she bears their expenses because they are in debt? And does the word "yamoonuhu" (supports him) in the hadith of Zakat al-Fitr mean "ya'ooluhu" (provides for him)?

Zakat al-Fitr is obligatory for a Muslim, for himself and for those whose maintenance is his responsibility, such as impoverished children who have no wealth or earnings, especially if they have no father, or if the father is in hardship. As for married daughters, their maintenance is the responsibility of their husbands. If the children are capable of supporting themselves, then their Fitr is not obligatory upon the mother; rather, it is obligatory upon them. If the mother volunteers to give it out, it is permissible if her children have authorized her or if she has informed them of it.
