What is the ruling on being named with names such as "Michael" or with non-Arabic names?

It is disliked to be named Mika'il because it is one of the names of the angels. This is the view of Malik and was favored by Ibn al-Qayyim. As for non-Arabic names, if they are common among Muslims and non-Muslims, like 'Isa (Jesus) and Sulayman (Solomon), then there is no objection. However, if they are exclusive to disbelievers, like Peter and George, then it is not permissible to be named with them due to the resemblance to them. This imitation, if it stems from caprice, is a sin. If it stems from believing in their superiority, it is a danger to one's faith, and one must repent from it and change the name.
