What did the disbelievers do at the Kaaba during the جاهلية (Age of Ignorance)?

The disbelievers used to circumambulate and pray at the Kaaba, but their prayer was whistling and clapping, as described in the Quranic verse: "And their prayer at the House was not but whistling and clapping" (Al-Anfal: 35). Their circumambulation was performed naked, where the woman would circumambulate nude and say: "Who will lend me a 'titwaf' (a piece of cloth) to place on her private parts, and she would say: 'Today some of it will appear or all of it, and what appears of it, I do not permit.'" A narration mentioned that this was the reason for the revelation of the verse: "O Children of Adam, take your adornment at every mosque" (Al-A'raf: 31).
