Is it true that the polytheists used to circumambulate the Kaaba naked, and what was the reason for that?

The polytheists, both men and women, used to circumambulate the Kaaba naked, believing that their clothes had been defiled by sins, or as an optimistic gesture of shedding sins. So, Allah Almighty revealed: "Take your adornment at every mosque," and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded the covering of one's nakedness and forbade circumambulating naked.
