Is it necessary to inform the prospective fiancée of the prior intention for jihad, without her family knowing, so that she may understand the nature of future life, or participation in it, and is concealing this considered deception?

The suitor is not obligated to inform his fiancée of his intention to engage in jihad after marriage, because the fundamental principle for a Muslim is to perform the rituals of Allah, and jihad is the pinnacle of Islam. It is sufficient honor for her to be the wife of a captive or a martyr. However, it is preferable to inform her if doing so does not lead to a greater harm.

A mujahid (one who engages in jihad) is not permitted to expose his family to destitution or neglect their rights, such as maintenance, housing, and considering the duration of his absence, unless jihad is obligatory upon him. In such a case, he may be granted more leeway if he leaves his family with sufficient maintenance.
