Do children experience the throes of death? And do they feel the pangs of death?

The pangs of death are its intensity and overwhelmingness that befall the dying, and they are common to everyone, including children, due to Allah's wisdom in this matter. There is no evidence to suggest that children are exempt from them. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, suffered from these pangs, saying: "There is no god but Allah; indeed, death has pangs." Ibn al-Arabi holds that the intensity or lightness of death depends on the individual's state: it may be a punishment for the disbeliever, an expiation for the sinner, a raising of ranks for the saint, or an argument and example, as occurred with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. What afflicts children in terms of the pangs of death is of the same nature as the pains and illnesses that afflict them in this world.
