What is the difference between plucking the eyebrows and "tazjeej" them, and what is the permissible "tazjeej"?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

"Tazjeej" of the eyebrows means removing excess hair from them or trimming them, and this falls under the definition of "namṣ" (plucking/thinning) which is forbidden in Islamic law. However, if "tazjeej" means lengthening the eyebrow with kohl or similar, without removing hair, then there is no harm in it. "Al-Zajaj" is a natural characteristic of the eyebrow, distinguished by its thinness, length, and arch, and it should not be confused with "tazjeej" which is an act. Likewise, there is no difference between "namṣ" and "tazjeej" in terms of the Islamic ruling if it involves hair removal, whether complete or partial.
