What is the meaning of the phrase "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful"?

"In the name of Allah, the Most Grificient, the Most Merciful" means "In the name of Allah, I recite" or "In the name of Allah, I write." A Muslim says it seeking Allah Almighty's help and success in the act at the beginning of which Allah's name is mentioned, by invoking His Most Beautiful Names (Allah, Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim).
