Can you explain to us what circumcision is and what its place is?

Circumcision is the name for the act of the circumciser, and the site of circumcision. For females, it is called khafd (reduction), and for males, i'dhar (excising). It was a practice of Abraham and the prophets. Scholars have differed regarding its ruling, and the most accurate opinion is that it is obligatory for men and Sunnah for women. For men, it is for the benefit of purification from urine, and for women, to reduce their sexual desire. In male circumcision, the foreskin of the glans is cut until it is completely exposed. In female circumcision, the skin is cut like a rooster's comb at the top of the vulva. It is permissible to pay money to the circumciser.
