What is the ruling on a woman traveling to visit a nuclear reactor for scientific purposes if the visit is secure and she returns on the same day?

The basic ruling is that it is not permissible for a woman to travel without a mahram (definition), due to legitimate Islamic objectives such as safeguarding her and preserving her honor. However, if there is a compelling need for study, such that she would be harmed by its omission, and the companionship is safe, and she is secure from fitna (temptation/strife), then it is hoped that there is no harm in traveling without a mahram, taking license from the opinion of those who permitted it.
