How is Islamic marriage conducted, what are its conditions, how many witnesses are required, and can any memorizer of the Quran who prays be a marriage officiant?

An Islamic marriage is valid if it fulfills the conditions and pillars, which are: the designation of the spouses, their consent, the presence of a guardian (wali), the witnessing of the marriage by two just male witnesses, and the absence of any legal impediments for either spouse, such as kinship, suckling, affinity, or religious difference (except for a Muslim marrying a woman of the People of the Book), or if the woman is in her waiting period (iddah), or if one of the spouses is in a state of ihram for pilgrimage. It is not a condition for the validity of the marriage that the contract be performed by an authorized marriage officiant (ma’dhun), though it is preferable for the preservation of rights.
