If you divorce your wife with a single pronouncement, you may take her back during her waiting period (iddah) without her consent or the consent of her family. This taking back (raj'ah) occurs merely by uttering the words, and it is recommended to have witnesses.

If the waiting period ends before you take her back, you may not take her back except with a new contract and a new dowry. The waiting period ends for a menstruating woman after three menstrual cycles, or upon delivery for a pregnant woman, or after three months for a woman who does not menstruate.
