If the husband uttered a divorce while overwhelmed, either due to extreme anger or while asleep, his divorce is not effective, and his statement is accepted under oath. If this divorce is the third one, then she is irrevocably divorced from him (major separation), and she is not lawful for him until she marries another husband willingly, and then he divorces her or dies, and her waiting period () expires. If this divorce is the second one (meaning one divorce had occurred before it), then he can take her back before the expiration of the waiting period (iddah).
