The question

What is the ruling on the groom embracing and kissing his fiancée in her parents' home without their permission, and what is the ruling on flirtatious acts and romantic conversations? Does this count as a betrayal of the parents, and what is its expiation? Is it permissible for the fiancée to promise her mother to refrain from these actions, and is she bound by this promise? Is it permissible for her to request a postponement of the marital relationship after the consummation?

The answer

It is permissible for the contracting husband to enjoy his contracted wife immediately upon the valid عقد (marriage contract) because she is his wife. There is no betrayal of the wife's family in this. However, custom dictates that the contracting husband is not permitted to engage in intercourse with his wife until she is escorted to him, and this custom should be respected. It is permissible for the wife to refuse to surrender herself to her husband until he pays her mahr (dowry). The girl's promise to her mother not to allow the contracting husband to enjoy her before the consummation is permissible, and fulfilling it is desirable as long as she is not obligated to surrender herself to him. If the contracting husband requests the girl's surrender after paying the mahr, it is not permissible to prevent her from surrendering herself to him without a valid excuse. A woman's request to her husband to postpone intercourse for some time is permissible, and she is not obliged to inform her family about it.
