Is it permissible to pay the Fidya for fasting in cash, and is it permissible to combine its value to give it to one poor person?
If someone is unable to fast and make it up due to old age or an illness that is not expected to be cured, they must break the fast and feed a poor person for each day. This is the opinion of the majority of scholars, based on Ibn Abbas's interpretation of the verse of redemption (). It is not permissible to give the value (money) instead of food, according to the more correct view, due to the explicit text "feeding a poor person," unless there are no deserving people, or there are those in urgent need, or when transferring the fidyah. In this case, it is permissible to give it to an agent who buys food with it. It is permissible to give the fidyah for many days to one poor person.
