What is the ruling on a husband's ill-treatment of his pregnant, sick wife who is considering divorce?

Spouses must live together in kindness. If the husband mistreats his wife and disregards her condition during pregnancy and illness, he is an oppressor. He should be reminded of the Prophet's (PBUH) exhortation: "Treat women kindly," and "The best of you is the best to his family, and I am the best to my family." If this does not help, wise people should intervene to reconcile them. Divorce is not easy, and patience and overlooking faults are preferable to separation.
