Scholars have unanimously agreed on the obligation for a menstruating woman to make up the days she missed in Ramadan (definition) and on the invalidity of her fasting during menstruation. She must repent for her negligence in seeking knowledge. If the makeup fasts are completed before the next Ramadan, then she only needs to make them up. However, if the makeup fasts are delayed without a valid excuse until another Ramadan arrives, then feeding the poor is not obligatory, though it is more cautious to do so. What is meant by feeding is half a sa' of the staple food of the country for each day (approximately 1.5 kilograms of rice), and it must be food, not money. It is permissible to give money to charitable organizations or mosque imams for them to purchase and distribute food, or to prepare food for the needy. It is also permissible to give it to poor orphans.
