What is the ruling on communal iftar in Ramadan? And what is the ruling on it outside of Ramadan?

There is no harm in communal breaking of the fast (Iftar (definition)) during Ramadan (definition) and at other times, as it fosters familiarity, love, and strengthens ties among Muslims. This is an undeniable good, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever provides food for a fasting person to break his fast, will have a reward like theirs, without it detracting from the reward of the fasting person in the slightest." And his saying: "O people: Spread peace, and feed the hungry." This promotes harmony and love and encourages competition in good deeds.
