The pilgrim in is not permitted to perform the first stage of disencumbrance (al-tahallul al-awwal) on the Day of Sacrifice unless he performs two out of three rituals: stoning (al-ramy), shaving or shortening the hair (al-halaq aw al-taqsir), and circumambulation (al-). One who stones but does not perform two of these is not permitted to wear tailored clothes, and doing so is considered committing a prohibited act that necessitates a (expiatory sacrifice).
