The answer

Allah is aware of human weakness in the face of desire, and for this reason, He, Exalted is He, legislated means to avoid falling into the forbidden, and made repentance a remedy after one has fallen.

The essence of good in this matter lies in striving against the self before committing a sin and staying away from everything that incites disobedience. If a servant falls into sin, there is no remedy for him except sincere repentance and a swift return to Allah. Al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated that if a servant commits a sin and then repents, Allah forgives him, even if the sin and repentance are repeated hundreds of times.

So, the whole matter revolves around sincere repentance: abandoning the sin, resolving not to return to it, taking the necessary supportive measures, along with remorse and seeking forgiveness. Thinking about self-harm or persisting in disobedience is a misguided remedy that leads to a greater crime.

There is no magic formula, but rather diligence, perseverance, and patience. Among the practical supportive methods are:

- Marriage: The best and greatest remedy, and it takes precedence over studies, work, and the like. - Avoiding provocations: such as pornographic films and series, and everything that arouses desire. - Engaging in beneficial hobbies: and reading the Quran and performing acts of obedience. - Maintaining ritual purity and performing prayers at their prescribed times. - Being mindful of Allah in secret and in public: for it is the origin of all good and the key to salvation. - Sincere recourse to Allah: so that He may aid against the evil of the self, facilitate the channeling of desire into what is lawful, and avert what is forbidden.
