The meaning of envy (hasad (definition)) in the Hadith (definition) is "ghibtah," which is the desire for a blessing similar to what another person possesses, without wishing for that blessing to be removed from them. The term "hasad" was used for "ghibtah" metaphorically. The intention is that there is no beloved and superior form of "ghibtah" than desiring something similar to what is mentioned in the Hadith, such as reciting the Quran and spending wealth in the way of Allah. It does not refer to the forbidden envy, which is wishing for the removal of a blessing.
