The question

Is the healing that occurs at the hands of priests and monks for those afflicted by possession and magic a result of the use of jinn and sorcery, or is their ruqyah ineffective because it is from human speech, and do priests and monks use jinn in their worship or their lives?

The answer

The devils may serve disbelievers, sorcerers, and charlatans, leading them to abandon the afflicted person because of the sorcerer's treatment, and guiding them to the location of magic. Among the evidences for this is what was narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that (incantations), amulets, and at-Tiwalah (charms for love) are (polytheism). Also, the saying of Ibn Mas'ud to his wife Zaynab when her eye was hurting her and a Jew was performing ruqyah for her, which made it subside: "That is only the work of Satan; he used to prick her with his hand, and when he performed ruqyah for her, he would desist." And it may happen to the people of shirk and innovation that extraordinary matters occur through the assistance of devils to them, such as speaking to the dead, obtaining information, and healing the sick through their recitation or touch. All of this is from Satan, who pricks a person and then withdraws his hand when this polytheist comes.
