The question

What is the ruling on renting out floodlights in a stadium not owned by those who installed them, knowing that they do not rent out the land or prevent anyone from playing on it for free, and they draw electricity from an adjacent villa with the approval of its owner, who stipulated that no problems be caused to him? And must he be informed about the rental of the floodlights?

The answer

It is not permissible to rent out floodlights because the electricity used does not belong to you. It is obligatory to inform the villa owner and seek his permission to use it, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "The property of a Muslim is not lawful (to take) except with his willing consent," and his saying: "None of you should take his brother's belongings, neither in play nor in seriousness," and his saying: "It is not permissible for a man to take his brother's stick without his willing consent." The villa owner pays for electricity consumption, and burdening him without his permission is an act of aggression and injustice. You must repent, inform him of what has transpired, and not take electricity from him for anyone else except with his permission.
